The ORF Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Network includes
three separate stranding report databases: sea turtles, cetaceans
(dolphins, porpoises, and whales), and pinnipeds (seals and sea
lions). These databases are password protected and you must have
a user ID and a password to add, modify or delete records. A registered
user is only allowed to modify or delete their own records. All
records in all databases may be viewed and searched as a guest user
without a user ID and password. When you create a new account please
write down your user name and password as we have not yet incorporated
modifications to the programming that will allow users to request
a forgotten password.
Each database report form requests information on the event examiner,
the geographic stranding location, detailed morphological data,
and allows the option of uploading photo images to be associated
with a record. Image formats that may be uploaded are .gif, .jpg,
and .jpeg. We request that your image sizes be limited to approximately
1.8 x 2.75 inches, 4.5 x 7.0 centimeters, or 270 x 410 pixels maximum.
The databases are fully searchable on any record field and allow
"*" wildcard searches for all records.
These databases are newly developed and we expect to implement
improvements over time. We welcome comments and suggestions from
all users, and there is an email address to reach the DB Administrator.
